St Paul’s College take the honours at Auckland Senior Hawks Cup

12 Mar, 2015

St Paul’s college have gone back to back after a powerful performance to take out the 2015 Auckland Senior Hawks Cup.

In a high scoring match, with both teams playing hard running football, One Tree Hill were unable to maintain the pace set by St Paul’s in the match played at St Paul’s College.

In the first half, a younger team from One Tree Hill College were stunned by an 11 goal blitz from St Paul’s who were made up of all year 13 students. Tane Martin from St Paul’s worked hard in the middle of the ground providing opportunities for the forward line to take advantage of. Steven Edgar and Francis Tanuvasa were strong up front kicking 4 goals between them before half time.

One Tree Hill switched on and fought back hard in to make an entertaining second half. Eric Siilata and Tama Te Paea showed a never give up attitude by working hard in both defence and attack. This determination saw Tama receive the Player of the Tournament award and Eric was the schools player of the day.

In the end, St Paul’s ran out convincing winners and will be back in 2016 to attempt to be the first school to win the Hawks Cup 3 years in a row.

Thanks to the coaches and support staff from both schools and to St Paul’s College for hosting the event.
