Regional wrap up

23 Nov, 2015

Auckland:

The University Blues moved one game away from becoming back to back premiers when they proved to be too strong for a resurgent Mt Roskill Saints outfit. It was all uphill for the Saints after losing their Captain Michael Boyce to a broken collarbone 10 minutes into the first quarter. The Blues were clinical all game with strong performances from Uni players Rowan Bilkey and Nick Trask. In the end, University dominated the second half to clinch the win and book their spot in next weeks grand final 63 point victory.

Out at Parrs Park in Waitakere, the North Shore Tigers repeated last weeks performance to once again beat the the Magpies to reach the Grand Final for the first time since they were premiers back in 2008.

Ty Smith and Adam Rice were outstanding in the midfield whilst big Tyler Rakich proved to be the difference in the forward line. A raft of behinds in the first quarter by the Magpies and a strong second quarter for North Shore saw the Tigers win by 9 points.

Semi Final 1:

University Blues 13.8: 86

Mt Roskill Saints 3.5:23

Semi Final 2:

North Shore Tigers 6.5: 41

Waitakere Magpies 4.8: 32

Wellington:

The Hutt Valley Eagles saved their best performance until last in their victory over the North City Demons. The Eagles played attacking footy from the first bounce and the young Eagles side kicked away to an 8 goal victory. The Demons will have to step up their game if they want to conquer the Eatern Bulldogs and be crowned Premiers next week in the Wellington AFL Grand Final.

Hutt Valley Eagles 9.7:  61

North City Demons 1.7: 13

In the second match of the day, the Eastern Bullldogs had to work hard for the win over the Wellington City Saints. The Saints stuck with last years premiers up until 3 Quarter time but ran out of steam and as they do, the doggies controlled the last 20 minutes to win by 3 goals.

Eastern Bulldogs 9. 10: 64

Wellington City Saints 6.9: 45
