Northern Suns settle on coaching staff

24 Nov, 2015

The announcement of Auckland based coaches Alex Fakatoumafi and Tim Rodgers with the Northern Suns now sees all four Premiership groups with a starting point to help guide the teams through the 2016 AFL New Zealand Premiership.

Fakatoumafi now based with the Manurewa Raiders is a developing coach with good experience at the highest level in his playing background. International representation with both Tonga and New Zealand including an International Cup victory in 2005 with New Zealand, will ensure the players under his control will have a good understanding of the AFL pathway.

Rodgers has AAFL grand final victories for both North Shore Tigers and University Blues clubs in a playing capacity and his association with a winning environment will be of great benefit to the Suns. Northern Suns captain James Kusel, is also likely to take on a coaching role in conjunction with his on field duties.

Northern Suns lead coach Chris Mundell is looking forward to utilising his first AFL New Zealand National Draft choice in the Category 5 & 6 group.

“Our choice in this category is restricted to an Under 18 player but this is where the undiscovered talent will be. I have seen enough of the New Zealand Under 16 and 18 teams to know how good these kids are.”
