Bulldogs take a bite out of the Demons to win 3rd Grand Final
02 Dec, 2015
The Eastern Bulldogs have stormed to an emphatic victory over the North City Demons in the Wellington AFL Grand Final over the weekend.
The two best sides all season took to the field at Hutt Park on a glorious day in the capital. The Bulldogs were gunning for a hat trick of Premierships whilst the young Demons were trying to exact revenge from the previous two Grand Finals in 2013 and 14.
The game started with a hiss and a roar with both sides putting all their effort into trying to take control of the game. The Bulldogs knew the Demons would be tough opponents and felt the wrath of key defender Waylon Baker, whose strong frame and great aerial ability meant that the forwards were going to be in for a hard day.
At quarter time, the Doggies were up by 3 points but come the second quarter, they turned up the heat on the Demons to keep them scoreless. Peter Halstead was superb in the ruck for the Dogs along with midfielder Stan Chung and Tom Robinson.
The boys in blue ran away with the game in the end but the scoreline didn’t reflect how hard the Demons played and how competitive they were. Special mention to Misilifi Faimalo who was best afield for the Demons who didn’t stop trying all day.
Although the Wellington AFL season has come to an end, many of the players will now shift their focus to the AFLNZ National Draft (Wednesday 2nd December, 7.00pm-9.00pm) in hope they will selected in one of the four AFLNZ Premiership teams for the upcoming season commencing February 14 2016. The draft will be live via social media from 7.00pm onwards.
