Western Crows replace Malone with Mundell

13 Sep, 2016

Home grown coaching talent Chris “Junior” Mundell has moved on from his initial tenure with the Northern Suns to take the helm of 2016 AFL New Zealand Premiership winners the Western Crows for the 2017 season.

With over six years of professional coaching experience, Chris Mundell has become a prominent figure within New Zealand’s AFL landscape.

Initially entering into the AFL New Zealand High Performance Programme in an assistant coaching capacity, Chris has progressed to take on the head coaching role for the New Zealand Under 18 team, the Auckland Buccaneers at a National Provincial level and currently the reigning AAFL Premiership coach with the University Blues.

In 2016, Chris coached the Under 18 New Zealand Hawks on their tour of Melbourne where they produced a strong result against AFL South East Victoria opposition. Mundell has and will continue play a part in the transition of talented youth into the New Zealand senior football landscape and those transitioning to Australian based competition.

“I’m very excited to take on the role as Head coach for the Western Crows. It is going to be tough to fill the shoes of Rob Malone but looking forward to the challenge of taking a winning team and pushing them further.”

Mundell’s first step will be concentrating on cementing his base player list for the Crows. Each of the four AFL New Zealand Premiership teams will retain a base player list with the rest of the remaining resubmitted into the 2017 AFL New Zealand National Draft.
