2016 Youth Competition Week 7 results

Prior to the local league Grand Finals in Auckland and Wellington, the next wave of up and coming AFL New Zealand stars were in action in the Youth competition over the weekend.
Both The U14 Boys and Youth Girls combined this week to mix up the teams to learn from each other and further develop their skills. It was the Magpies versus the Tigers and was great to see everyone giving it their all. Samantha Shrimpton (Birkenhead College) was on fire again for the Tigers, backing up her best on ground performance from last week. Albany Junior High School Student Luke Buckley was player of the day for his silky smooth skills all game. Oliver Parsons (Westlake Boys High School) and Georgentina Sumeo-Shaw (Birkenhead College) teamed up nicely for the Magpies and were rewarded with special mentions after the game.
Notable mentions go to Will O’Brien Joe Foster and Valentina Serrano for the Tigers and the brother and sister pairing of Buell and Bom Verkade.

It was the Suns this week who took out the U17 competition as they beat the Crows by 27 points at QBE Stadium. Joey Alesich Tamariki (Rosmini College) provided great attack as he slotted four goals in the forward line, while down back, Southern Cross Campus student Dawson Nanai did his job by laying on some great aggressive tackles. Clayton Walters (Green Bay high School) stuck to the game plan and was awarded the Suns Player of the day. For the Crows, Player of the day was Couper Jones (Long Bay College) who showed good attack on the footy all game along with Braithen Anderson (Pakuranga College) who has been developing his kicking and hand passing skills. The boys have one last game next week when the 2016 Youth Competition wraps up for the year.

It was a big win for the Lions over the Bulldogs for the U14 Wellington competition. Lions player of the day Munro Short (Karori Normal School) kicked five goals in a dominant display up front and was supported well by Thomas Woodward and Conrad Pender who are both students at Scots College. For the Bulldogs,Karori Normal school students Will Anderson was awarded the best player award for his consistent hard work all over the ground and Fergus Short utilised his strong voice and was a notable mention from his coach. The final week of the Youth will take place next Sunday and will run alongside the NPC Tournament which will feature some of the best players in the country.
