History as NZ Kahu win first ever series

28 Apr, 2017

The AFL New Zealand Kahu Youth Girls created history earlier in the week in Wellington as they not only won their first ever game but completed a 2 match series win over the Mornington Peninsula Youth Girls at Hutt Park in Wellington.

Both games were played in brilliant conditions at Hutt Park on Saturday and Monday and the standard of footy was very high from the two teams.

The NZ Kahu started both matches off strong kicking early goals to get themselves in front on the scoreboard. Co-Captains of the NZ Kahu Jolyn Collins (Massey High School ) and Killarney Morey (Epsom Girls Grammar) lead the way in Game one and were rewarded with the Best on Ground awards.

A four goal second quarter opened up the game and the Kahu kicked on from there winning by 67 points. Siann Toomey and Monica Mail were named best for the visitors.

In Game two, Ceyan Drollet from Howick College continued her good form from Game one, kicking another two goals to end the series as the leading goalkicker. The NZ Kahu won by 25 points in a much close game to complete the series win.

AFL New Zealand would like to congratulate the whole side on a terrific achievement.
