Record number of Schools turn out for Wellington KiwiKick Tournament

A record number of Schools recently attended the Upper Valley Cluster Tournament in Wellington making it the biggest KiwiKick Tournament that Wellington has seen.
The Upper Valley Cluster Tournament was into its fourth year and this was the biggest tournament yet, eclipsing 2016.
15 teams from 11 schools attended the day at Trentham Memorial Park with 10 of the schools having had the AFL KiwiKick programme in their school in the last 2 years.
Over 180 kids participated in the tournament and the standard was high right from the start of the day with kicking and marking impressive from all sides.
12 Upper Hutt College Students who have completed the AFL Secondary Schools ‘Coach the Coaches Programme’ were on hand to assist with the tournament.
The students assisted with:
- Recording results
- Coaching fun games while teams had their bye rounds
The feedback from the Primary Schools was all positive and they were impressed by the Upper Hutt College students.
The final was played between St Joseph’s Upper Hutt and Silverstream which was an outstanding game. St Joseph’s hit the lead early on and went on to win the tournament for the second time.

AFL New Zealand would like to Thank David King from Activation for his help in the organisation of the tournament along with Scott Leggett from Upper Hutt College and the rest of the teachers in charge of the Primary Schools who helped get the kids involved in what was a tremendous tournament.
