Suns retain Awatere and Beck for 2018 Premiership

The Northern Suns have announced that they will add Regional based players Garrett Beck and Alex Awatere to their retained players list for the 2018 AFL New Zealand Premiership.

 

The players have been retained through Category 3 of the Retained Players List (RPL): Retention of Regionally based players (Christchurch/ Dunedin/ Wellington) who have not played for the New Zealand Senior team over the past 12 months.

 

Garrett Beck

Cantabrian Garrett Beck will be a Northern Sun in the 2018 AFL New Zealand Premiership.

The 20 year old impressed playing for the Suns in his debut season earlier this year and is itching to be apart of New Zealand’s Premier AFL competition when it get’s back underway on February 11th next year.

Beck recently won the 2017 Canterbury AFL Premiership with the Christchurch Bulldogs.

 

Alex Awatere

Wellingtonian Alex Awatere has been retained by the Northern Suns for 2018.

Alex plays for the North City Demons in the Wellington AFL has represented New Zealand at National level on multiple occasions with his most recent appearance representing the U18’s during their Melbourne tour in May this year.

The 19 year old first started playing AFL through the AFL Cup Secondary School Competition and his strongest attribute is his skill work when it comes to ball on the ground.
