Coaching Appointments a key focus

The appointment of Youth, Premiership and National Representative coaches for the 2018/2019 AFL New Zealand season will take place by way of applications over the next month.

 

For those who would like to progress towards obtaining an AFL New Zealand Academy Coaching position for the 2019 New Zealand Representative season, there is an expectations that a progression through the Junior Coaching roles linked to the Youth Competitions, will formulate a stable base and invaluable starting point.

For those who would like to progress towards obtaining an AFL New Zealand Senior or Under 18 Coaching position for the 2019 New Zealand Representative season, and leading into the 2020 International Cup, there is an expectations that a progression through the AFL New Zealand Premiership Competition, will formulate a stable base and invaluable starting point.

AFL New Zealand will look to utilise support provided by Regional Sport Trust partners and Sport New Zealand who are now providing a strong knowledge base for those who take on the role and this greatly assists with the coaching pathway as well as providing a quality experience for both the coach and the participant.

Coaching and Talent Development

Sam McKenzie, Michael Coultard and Chris Mundell are three examples of AFL coaches that have progressed through a development phase with all holding fulltime Coach Developer Roles with Auckland Rugby, Sport Waitakere and Auckland Cricket in their respective positions.

With the increasing opportunities within Female participation pathways, AFL New Zealand has increased it’s focus to ensure we facilitate growth in this area.

AFLNZ expects all New Zealanders to have the opportunity to participate in sport and recreation activities regardless of their age, gender, religion, cultural background, sexual orientation, disability, income or geographical location.
