Gun midfielder signs on for IC 2020
12 Jul, 2018
New Zealand midfielder Ben Hick has joined the ever growing list of 2017 Senior players committing to be apart of the 2020 AFL International Cup in Melbourne.
Ben made his debut at the 2017 tournament after having been involved in the AFL New Zealand High Performance Programme for ten years and earned a spot in the International Cup World Team through hard work and determination in the midfield.
Following the tournament in August, Hick missed the Auckland AFL season due to injury.
A nominee for the 2018 Senior Men’s Player of the year, Hick has been a stand out in the AFL New Zealand Premiership for the Southern Saints and was part of the 2017 Premiership side who took out the title.
“IC17 was an amazing campaign to be apart of and deserved a trophy to top it off. I suspect the majority of the 2017 squad members will be highly motivated to go one better in 2020. Personally I cannot wait to get back to Melbourne to have another crack.”
“Having a long injury lay off following the tournament was a small price to pay to play for your country in an International tournament.”
Hick plays for the University Blues in the local Auckland competition and joins NZ Captain Andrew Howison and Vice Captain Sam McKenzie who have made it their goal to be lifting the cup on the MCG in 2020.
