2018 Best and Fairest to guide the Crows

2018 AFL New Zealand Premiership Best and Fairest Jay Johnson will Captain the Western Crows for the 2019 competition.

 

The New Zealand onballer had a stand out season in 2018 following a strong International Cup with his highlight coming in the Grand Final where he took an outstanding mark followed by kicking a goal on the MCG.

The Eastern Blues midfielder took over the role of Captain from fellow Cantabrian Jared Court for the 2018 season where led the side to the inaugural AFL New Zealand Premiership back in 2016.

The 26 year old has been a pivotal squad member for the Crows over the past three seasons with his endurance running, smooth ball skills and calm demeanour make him stand out in every game.

Johnson has been named in every Premiership ‘Team of the Year’ since the competition’s inception. His long list of accolades also include the 2016 Crows Best and Fairest.

“I’m extremely excited to be Captaining the Western Crows again for the 2019 season. 

The group made some big strides last season and we will look to build on that development as we look to regain the title as Premiers once again.”

First representing New Zealand in 2011, Jay was introduced to the game by former AFL New Zealand representative and current New Zealand Sevens All Blacks team member, Sam Dickson.
