Canterbury Youth Competition a big hit

01 Nov, 2018

As the AFL New Zealand Youth Competition continues to grow, the national organisation has added Christchurch as a new location for 2018.

The Youth Competition for boys and girls has been created to compliment the pathway for participants to enjoy and excel in AFL.

It has a focus on improving athletes’ skills and fitness within a fun environment. This is achieved through a training, game and development programme that highlights the necessary requirements throughout the pathway.

The Southern Trust have supported the Canterbury Youth competition by funding new resources including Gazebo’s and a brand new scoreboard.

It was an exciting weekend in Canterbury as the first ever AFL New Zealand Youth competition kicked off in Christchurch.

Held at Burnside Park, a large number of new participants were getting their first taste of AFL in the region.

It was a high scoring affair in the Under 15 game as the Giants piled on 27 goals to defeat the Suns. Luke O’Sullivan and Laine Creighton kicked 6 and 5 goals respectively.

Registrations are still open so for further information, head to youth.aflnz.co.nz or click the button below to register.
