Youth competition rolls into Round 2

06 Nov, 2018

Week two of the 2018 AFL New Zealand Youth competition was back in full swing in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch over the weekend.

We start off this weeks wrap in the South Island as the Christchurch competition continues to grow.

The Giants made it two wins in a row in the U15 grade with a ten goal victory over the Suns. Ashton Pullyblank was unstoppable around the ground and finished the game with five goals.

In the U17’s, Angus Hammett booted seven majors to guide the Saints to 51 point win over the Crows.

At Unitec in Auckland, a sunny but breezy day greeted the players as the U12 grade kicked things off.

The Bulldogs scored a 19 point victory over the Giants with Leo Grant kicking three goals to earn himself a player of the day award. Baden Todd and Gracia Howes gave their best efforts for the Giants.

In the U15’s, it was the Bulldogs again who secured another victory as they defeated the Lions by 7 goals. The in form Max Serrano had another stellar week in front of goal kicking five for the day while Sarah Simpson kicked three.

NZ Kahu Captain Killarney Morey was back to her brilliant best in the 16 and over Female grade. Morey kicked 5 goals for the Tigers but it wasn’t enough as they went down by three points to the Magpies.

In Wellington, The Lions and the Giants both had big wins with the Te Paiho siblings of Heaven-Lee and Shaiah having outstanding games to pick up the player of the day awards in their respective grades.
