The Central Giants set up a big win over the Northern Suns by kicking 7 goals in the first quarter to record their third win of the season as they kept themselves in the hunt for a Grand Final spot on April 14th.
The return of captain Sam McKenzie was a big boost for the struggling side and he found himself in the action straight away kicking 2 goals within the first 5 minutes of the game.
The Suns were putting the pressure on in attack but couldn’t create any scoring opportunities thanks to the Giants backline of Rhodes, Smith and Manks.
Down the other end of the field, the Giants took their chances kicking 4 more goals through Elliot Bennetts, Wayne Sullivan and Tyson Schmid and Wade Eatts.
The Giants were on a roll and when Matt Keyse kicked his first goal in the Premiership they found themselves leading by 7 goals at quarter time.
The reigning Premiers continued to apply the pressure in the second as Elliot Bennetts kicked his second for the day and Sam McKenzie extended their lead before the Suns finally got themselves on the scoreboard late in the second when Reed Cathcart kicked their first major.
Reed was in the play again straight after the main break gaining possession in the Giants territory before running through the middle of the ground and finished off with a contender for goal of the year.
He then set up will Kempt who kicked their second goal of the quarter from a set shot from 50 metres out.
Trailing by 10 goals in the final quarter, Will Kempt snapped a goal to get the Suns fired up but the Giants kept their composure to snuff out any further opportunities as they went on the attack.
8 goals to 1 in the last saw the margin blow out as the reigning Premiers notched up their biggest win of the season.
Matt kemp had a good game for the Suns along with youngster Jarrod Hill.
For the Giants, Harrison Manks was strong as was NZ U18 Star Ethan Halton who finished off the game with a terrific goal.
Tristan Burnett was the Giants best. The midfielder leaves nothing out on the field and sets up multiple opportunities for his forward line.
