Dickinson and Beattie to strengthen Suns midfield
24 Oct, 2019
AFL New Zealand Premiership side, the Northern Suns have announced that they have retained New Zealand senior players Will Dickinson and Liam Beattie for the 2020 season.
The pair were retained under Category 1 of the Retained Players List (RPL). RPL 1 is the Retention of Auckland based players who have played for the New Zealand Senior team.
Suns Captain Ben Hick is the third player to fall into the category.
Silky midfielder Will Dickinson will run out for the Northern Suns in the 2020 AFL New Zealand Premiership.
After returning in 2019 after missing all of 2018 through injury, Dickinson was back to his best form and combined nicely in the midfield with Ben Hick and Liam Beattie.
Playing for the Mt Roskill Saints in the Auckland AFL, the 2016 league best and fairest dominates around the contest and provides a wealth of experience.
Will was a member of the 2017 International Cup squad and had a NZ debut to remember in 2017 where he was best on ground against the AFL Academy at Westpac Stadium in Wellington.
Liam Beattie will once again be apart of the Northern Suns Premiership team in 2020.
The inaugural Northern Suns Best and Fairest is a key figure in the side’s midfield as his strength over the ball and in tight contests provides his team with first use of the football.
A current member of the University Blues in the Auckland league, Beattie has represented New Zealand at both the 2014 and 2017 International Cup and is putting up a strong case to be apart of the 2020 squad.
