Senior New Zealand Hawks
The New Zealand Hawks represents AFL New Zealand as its premier team. The national senior team is generally selected from the annual National Provincial Championships to be held this year in Christchurch on December 7th and 8th 2013. They also play against a selection of touring Australian teams as well as South Pacific nations.
The New Zealand Hawks were last winners of the International Cup in 2005 defeating Papua New Guinea in the grand final played at the MCG in front of 30,000 people.
The next scheduled fixture is against the AFL Australian Institute of Sport team at Wellington Stadium to be played in January 2014 followed by two matches against the South Pacific in April 2014 and the International Cup in August/September 2014.
New Zealand Hawks Under 18’s
The New Zealand Under 18 team is selected from the Under 18 National Championships held in April every year. The team then competes against a touring Australian team in October each year.
The next scheduled fixtures involve a series of two games against the Victorian Amateur Football Association to be played in Auckland on October 5th and 7th 2013.
New Zealand Hawks Under 17’s
The New Zealand Under 17 team is a new inclusion to the High Performance Programme and will look to schedule matches within Australia in the near future.
Players from the Under 17 team are eligible for selection in the South Pacific team to compete in the Australian Under 18 Championships played annually.
New Zealand Hawks Under 16’s
The New Zealand Under 16’s is selected from the Hawks Cup Secondary Schools competition held in the last term each year as well as talent identification carried out through the AFL New Zealand Combine Programme. The team is finalised at the Under 16 National Championships held in March every year. The major tournament that the Under 16 team competes in is the “Oceania Tournament” involving Papua New Guinea and the South Pacific.
The next scheduled fixtures are due to take place against a touring indigenous team known as the “Fling Boomerangs” in Wellington in December 2013 followed by the Oceania Cup in Australia in April 2014.
From the Oceania Tournament, a team is selected to compete in the Australian Under 16 Championships later that year played in July. This tournament is watched closely by scouts from every AFL club and provides participates with the opportunity to obtain International Scholarships.

The New Zealand Under 15 team is a new inclusion to the High Performance Programme and is scheduled to play a touring Australian team in New Zealand in the near future.
