With the success of the inaugural AFL Women’s League in Australia, AFLNZ has now created a pathway for Women to play in New Zealand.

With new competitions being formed in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, AFL New Zealand has also launched the AFL Women’s Premiership.

QBE Stadium in Auckland will host the commencement of the inaugural competition and the scheduled matches will commence in March 2019 and take place in conjunction with the current male competition.

The female competition will provide the perfect environment for girls transitioning from the Youth Competition formats to senior football and is the next step in finalising the pathway for women to participate in AFL within New Zealand.

To complete the female pathway AFL New Zealand has the goal of a national Women’s team competing in the AFL International Cup 2020.
