The Northern Suns have announced that they will add Auckland based players, Joel Brown, Liam Beattie and Jordan Drinkall to “their retained players list” for the 2017 AFL New Zealand Premiership.

Joel Brown

A member of the 2016 AFL New Zealand Premiership Team of the Year, the 17 year old had an impressive season for the Suns. Hard at the ball and fast on his feet, Brown is an elusive player who knows how to kick goals and exerts great tackle pressure within the forward line.

New Head Coach Dave Abetz is excited to have the young forward at his disposal and he knows where Brown can make an impact through his association as Head Coach of the Raiders.

Liam Beattie

Nominated by the Northern Suns as their best and fairest for 2016, Beattie had an outstanding season in the midfield as he combined with team mate Jordan Drinkall to control the footy in both attack and defence.

His strength over the ball and in tight contests provided his team with first use of the football and this was highlighted in the Suns victory over an unbeaten Western Crows side during round 3 of the 2016 Premiership Season.

Beattie is currently playing for the University Blues in the Auckland competition and was a part of the 2014 International Cup squad.

Jordan Drinkall

The elusive midfielder will join University team mate Liam Beattie as they strive for Premiership glory. Fast on his feet linked with a great skill base, Drinkall will provide the midfield with the drive required by the Suns to push forward during tight matches.

Along with being named in the AFL New Zealand 2016 Team of the year, Drinkall also made his debut for the senior NZ Hawks in April this year against the AFL Academy side.
