The Central Giants have selected Will Gregson as their number 1 AFL New Zealand draft selection to play in the 2016 AFL New Zealand Premiership.
Gregson from the Waitakere Magpies club, has travelled through the high performance system after initially debuting at international level for the New Zealand Under 18’s team. A strongly built backman with a great leap and electric pace, he is likely to fill in a key role in the backline and in negating prominent opposition goal scorers.
“Great to have Will at the Giants. He will provide great depth to on field leadership and great versatility around the ground. He will be able to cover many positions and is strong bodied with a great kick. The relationship between David (Rattenbury) and Will having played club footy together was a big advantage in my selection.” Central Giants Coach Shannon Wall.

All games for the 2016 AFL New Zealand Premiership will be played at North Harbour Stadium on Sundays at 12.00pm and 2.00pm with the Round 1 commencing February 14th 2016. The season includes nine rounds in total that are played every Sunday excluding the Easter Weekend Sunday the 27th of March 2016 and culminating on April 17th 2016.
The AFL New Zealand National Draft has now completed the initial 8 rounds of selections with half of the players allocated to their 2016 teams for the inaugural competition.
The remainder of selections will take place in the time frame through to January after the completion of provincial matches, fitness assessments and also training sessions where the four coaches have the opportunity to view and recruit players new to the High Performance system.
