2016 AFL New Zealand Premiers the Western Crows have announced that inspirational Captain Jared Court will once again lead the side in the 2017 competition.
The Cantabrian lead the Western Crows to the first ever AFL New Zealand Premiership in 2016 where his team won seven games over the nine round competition. His ability and experience in the backline makes Jared a great leader and his calming and calculated influence showed throughout the 2016 season. Court was named in the backline in the 2016 AFL New Zealand Premiership Team of the year and is hungry for in 2017.
Court stated, “With the competition going into it’s second year, I’m looking forward to the younger players from last year stepping up to a new level with a new crop of young talent coming through the AFL New Zealand Academy system to play in the Premiership. Having Chris as the head coach, his work within that academy means that he will have good knowledge of the new talent who will be entered in the national draft and that could be crucial for the Crow’s going back to back in 2017.”
The 28 year old made his senior debut in Canterbury in 2005 and has been a solid representative within New Zealand teams since 2011. He has had Four National Provincial Championship victories with the Canterbury Cobras as well as four Canterbury AFL Grand Final victories with local club Eastern Blues.
New Crows head coach Chris Mundell has played alongside Jared on many occasions for the NZ Hawks and knows Court’s experience will help them go a long way to becoming back to back Premiers.
