In recent days both Southern Saints and Northern Suns have committed to their respective priority zones of Canterbury and North Auckland to work towards the completion of their team lists for the 2022 Premiership.
Central Giants have also committed to an increased focus on Wellington talent to assist in completing their team list for the upcoming season.
A further three signings from the Wellington region will round off a commitment of 11 players from the region who will don the Giants uniform in 2022.
The Giants have signed former NZ Falcon, Utu Ah Kuoi, North Shore Demons Captain, Alex Awatere and Elijah Ward from the Hutt Valley Eagles.
Ah Kuoi made his senior New Zealand debut in 2015 against the AFL Academy and was involved in the debut season of the Premiership in 2016.
The 2014 Under 16 Player of the year is full of talent and impressed AFL selectors at the 2015 combine where he won the 20m sprint with a time of 2.9 seconds.
Alex Awatere is the Captain of the North City Demons in the Wellington AFL and after a strong Premiership season making the 2018 ‘Team of the Year’, Alex went on to make his debut in the New Zealand senior side against the AFL Academy in April, 2018
Alex first started playing AFL through the AFL Cup Secondary School Competition and his strongest attribute is his skill work when it comes to ball on the ground.
