Wellington based James Kusel will take on a leadership role with the Central Giants for the 2022 AFL New Zealand Premiership season.
The Wellington AFL Hutt Valley Eagles player coach, will be one of several 2021 Southern Saints squad members who will find a new home for the 2022 season. Leadership is nothing new to the veteran New Zealand Falcons player, having led the Northern Suns as their inaugural captain in the Premiership competition in 2016.
Kusel has a playing career that stretches back over a fifteen-year period that makes him one of New Zealand’s greatest players. In 2006, Kusel faced a baptism of fire at the Australian Country Championships as a young key forward at only 17 years of age. His historic success in rugby at both the traditional format and sevens within the Wellington region, has resulted from his abilities to transition skills from the two codes.
Kusel continues to provide both Giants and Falcons coaching staff with a strong key position player that can play both forward or back. A key element if the Giants are to secure back to back flags.
