There is a storm on the horizon for 2022 as the Northern Storm have been announced as the final team to participate in the 2022 AFL New Zealand Women’s Premiership.
The Storm join the Western Ravens and the Central Shakers, who will compete in next year’s competition.
They will align with the Northern Suns Men’s Premiership side as both teams aim for Premiership glory in 2022.
The Women’s Premiership will return for its third season in 2022 following on from the success of the past 2 years and will take place in conjunction with the current Men’s Premiership between February and April.
The female competition will provide the perfect environment for girls transitioning from the Youth Competition formats to senior football and is the next step in finalising the pathway for women to participate in AFL within New Zealand.
Players will be selected from:
- Current Kahu Youth Girls
- New Zealand Representatives
- AFL New Zealand Academy
- Secondary Schools AFL Cup
- Auckland, Canterbury and Wellington Women Leagues
The AFL New Zealand Women’s Premiership kicks off on February 13th, 2022 at North Harbour Stadium in Auckland.
