Preview: Giants v Crows and Suns v Saints

Round 2 of the 2016 AFL New Zealand is this Sunday the 21st of February at QBE Stadium in Albany on Auckland’s North Shore.

Game 1 ( kick off 11.45am) will feature the Central Giants play against the Western Crows and Game 2 will see the Southern Saints take on the Northern Suns (kick off 1.45pm).

Central Giants vs Western Crows

The Crows will be on a high after last week’s 41-point victory over the Suns and will take on the Central Giants who were just pipped in the last 5 minutes of their game against the Saints last week.

The central midfield for the Crows will be hard to stop with Ty Smith and Te Kopa Tipene-Thomas forming a solid combination early on. Round 1 rising star winner William Warbrick will be aiming to better his performance from last week but will be up against one of the best defenders in number 1 draft pick Will Gregson.

The Giants will have worked on their fitness during the week and will look to build on their game against the Saints. Key players Stephen Parton up front and Liam Ackland throughout the midfield will work hard to ensure that the Giants get their first win of the season.

Southern Saints vs Northern Suns

Coming off a narrow victory over the Giants last week, the Southern Saints come up against the Northern Suns in game 2 on Sunday.

The Suns are bolstered by the return of key midfielder Jordan Drinkall who will combine well with last week’s best on field Liam Beattie.

The Saints have a mainly unchanged line up with the addition of NZ Hawks Ben Hick and Jared Percival and will look to build on their performance from last week to remain unbeaten in the competition.

The game will also see a battle of the McKenzie brothers as James (Suns) and Sam (Saints) will compete on opposite sides for the first time in what will be a great match up.
