The Western Crows have secured the services of young defender Alastair Maisey.
The year 13 student from Lynfield College in Auckland is the first player to be retained by the Crows. Maisey had a breakout season in 2016 with the Crows and was named as the Round 5 Rising Star winner where he produced a man of the match performance for the Crows against the Northern Suns.
With his strong frame and hard nosed attitude, Maisey found himself at home in the backline and generally played off the half back flank. At such a young age, the 18-year-old throws himself at every contest and attacks the ball at pace.
Maisey was named in the NZ Hawks U18 side who travelled to Melbourne in May of this year and is currently playing for the Mt Roskill Saints in the Auckland competition where he continues to be listed in their best player’s week in, week out.
New Western Crows Head Chris Mundell worked with Maisey during the U18’s tour to Melbourne and knows his potential in the game. “Alastair shows great attack on the ball and physical presence for his age. He has a willingness to learn and develop as a player and am looking forward to be working with him in 2017”
