Saints sign on young guns

The Southern Saints have announced the signing of rising stars, Luke De Roo, Henry Russell and Max Frew for the 2022 Men’s Premiership season.


All 3 players have previously won Rising Star awards in the Men’s Premiership and are talented youngsters who have a bright future in the game.

Luke De Roo has wonderful hand and foot skills for someone who is only new to the game and is plays as a swingman at either half back or half forward as he continues to develop. He was awarded the Rising Star award in round 5, 2020.

Henry Russell made his debut during the 2021 season and made a name for himself from his first touch of the footyat the top level. The round 7 rising star winner plays for the Christchurch Bulldogs and was drafted to the Crows in 2020. He was consistent throughout his first season and will look to further develop his game in 2022.

Max Frew will make his senior debut in the Men’s Premiership next season, after playing as a development player in 2021. Max starred in his first ever game and took out the rising star award. Situated in the forward line, Max played his role and looked comfortable up front. With a number of touches, Max was named in the Team of the week after a stellar first up effort.
