AFLNZ Premiership Southern Saints star, Dale Johnson will transfer to the Northern Suns and become part of the Suns leadership group for the 2022 season.
With the relocation of the Southern Saints to Canterbury, Johnson’s move was always on the cards. His involvement within the Auckland League with North Shore Tigers and his availability to commit to the Northern training hub combined as two key reasons for the Suns to secure his experience to lead them potentially to their first ever grand final in 2022.
Johnson debuted in 2021 AFL New Zealand Premiership after he was chosen as a Southern Saints Wildcard selection. Originally from country Victoria in Australia, Johnson landed in Auckland in early 2020 and joined the North Shore Tigers in the Auckland AFL.
The former Casey Demons VFL player is a hard running midfielder with a penetrating kick and a player full of talent, having represented the Gippsland Power in the national under 18 competition back in 2012.
This completes the Suns leadership group with Johnson joining Brandon Sucu and Xavier Rice to complete a formidable engine room that will guide their fortunes in 2022.
