Saints to add firepower with former Crows Captain to join in 2022

Western Crows foundation player and most recent Captain, Jay Johnson will don the Saints colours for the first time in the 2022 AFL New Zealand Premiership.

It was announced in early September that Canterbury will be the new home for the Southern Saints for the 2022 AFL New Zealand Premiership, where Eastern Blues Captain Johnson will link with fellow Cantabrian, Andrew Howison.

The 28 year old has been a pivotal squad member for the Crows over the past six seasons with his endurance running, smooth ball skills and calm demeanour making him stand out in every game.

Johnson has been named in every AFL New Zealand Premiership ‘Team of the Year’ since the competition’s inception and his long list of accolades include the Crow’s Best and Fairest in 2016 and the competitions Best and Fairest winner in 2018.

First representing the  New Zealand Falcons in 2011, Jay was introduced to the game by former AFL New Zealand representative and current New Zealand Sevens All Blacks team member, Sam Dickson.
