Suns secure gun midfielder for 2017

The Northern Suns have announced Tim Stokes as their first retained player for the 2017 Premiership.

A rather unknown name in the local community, University Blues midfielder Tim Stokes applied to be a part of the AFL New Zealand National Draft and was picked up by the Suns for the Inaugural competition. From there, Tim stood out in the Premiership with his determination and effort over the field. Stokes was named best on ground in a number of games for the Suns and was rewarded in being named in the midfield for the 2016 AFL New Zealand Premiership Team of the Year.

Tim went on to represent the national senior NZ Hawks for their campaign against the AFL Academy in April this year and will be putting in the extra work as he strives to be one of the lucky few who travel to Melbourne in August 2017 to play in the International Cup.

With his first Premiership season under his belt, Tim will look to become more of an on field leader at the Suns. “We were a young side with experience in key areas, if we can hone our skills and start strong next season, we will have a real chance to go all the way.”
