Central Giants have started the ball rolling on their the push for back to back AFL New Zealand Premiership flags by retaining three of their Wellington young guns for the 2022 Premiership season.

Bailee Laurenson-Tupai, Will Anderson and Toby Devine will all return for the Giants in a plan that will future proof the Giants Wellington recruitment strategy.

Laurenson-Tupai and Anderson, both born in 2003, are still eligible for Under 18 New Zealand Falcon representation and are almost guaranteed to feature in the New Zealand line up to take on Mornington Peninsula in Auckland next April following the Premiership season. A strong season could see them push for even higher honours in the Senior Falcons or All Stars line ups.

Devine, a year older, is born in 2002 and remains a reliable contributor for the Giants and his development through his involvement in the Premiership over the past season has seen his efforts rewarded.

Will Anderson’s progression through the AFL New Zealand Academy has seen him mature into a key defender and his size and stature continues to grow particularly with the key forwards he now attends to.

Bailee Laurenson-Tupai was recently selected for the 2021 edition of the rugby Hurricanes U18 Development Camp and his ability to switch from code to code with ease, has been recognised with Giants retention. The signing of exciting youth from the Wellington region is expected to continue in the Central Giants plans in coming weeks. They join the recent Wellington signings of James Kusel and Josh Morgan Ranui into the Giants squad.
