Former New Zealand Kahu Youth Girls Captain, Buell Verkade will lead the Northern Storm for the 2023 Women’s Premiership.
Buell hails from the North Shore in Auckland and has developed into a strong leader over the past 7 years of playing AFL in New Zealand.
First starting out in the AFL New Zealand Youth programme, Buell has developed her game and progressed through the Academy before representing New Zealand at age group level.
“I have loved being part of the AFL programme for the last 6 years. While playing the game is so much fun, I have also really appreciated the encouragement I have had around fitness and training, helping me to play better. I have also loved the supportive environment that AFL has been to me from fabulous team mates, to amazing coaches.”
Runner up in the Best and Fairest in 2021, Buell had an outstanding season as the Captain of the Magpies in this year’s premiership.
Buell is a smart player who positions herself well around the contest to ensure she creates opportunities

A future International Cup player, Buell will have a strong influence over the Northern Storm side, as they aim for Premiership glory in 2023.
