Giants Captain Appointed for 2023 AFL New Zealand Premiership

Auckland based University Blues star, Harison Manks, has retained his captaincy with the Central Giants and will lead them into the 2023 competition.

Manks was a squad member of the Premiership winning Southern Saints in 2017 before moving to the Central Giants in 2018 where he won his second Premiership in as many years. Another win with the Giants early in 2021, puts the key defender in a rare group that have achieved three AFL New Zealand Premierships.

The 25 year old is a smart defender and is a strong mark who often leads the statistics in this category. Manks made his debut for New Zealand during the ANZAC game against the AFL Academy in April 2017 and is expected to feature in the New Zealand Falcons vs All Stars match scheduled for April 23rd next year.

The Giants will have to cope with significant list changes in the new season. The immediate reassignment of their Canterbury list players to the Southern Saints, included the Giants 2021 Co-Captain Andrew Howison, will present significant challenges for the retention of this year Premiership success.
