NZ Rising Sun signs on until 2027

AFL New Zealand heritage star and Gold Coast Suns young gun Lucy Single has re-signed with the club for the next four AFLW seasons. The deal will see the Single remain in the red, gold and blue until the end of the 2027 AFLW season.

The 21-year-old is thrilled to have her future locked in on the Gold Coast.

“It’s great to have signed on for the next four seasons,” Single said.

“It gives me a feeling of security knowing that I can keep developing as a player and knowing I’ll be here at the club for years to come.

“When I see the progress we’ve made in the last four seasons, I can’t wait to see what we build in the next four.

“The belief in our group is so strong at the moment. We’ve had a taste of finals football now which has lit a fire in our bellies. We just want more and it’s going to be exciting to see what we do as a group in the next few years.”

A prodigious junior athlete with a background in rugby sevens and beach sprinting, Single has made an immediate impact in the AFLW after debuting in 2021.

She’s handled numerous roles throughout four seasons in the competition, most recently excelling in midfield and going toe-to-toe with some of the AFLW’s finest players.

Renowned for her explosive speed and strength, Single enjoyed a career-best season in 2023 during which she achieved a second top-five finish in the GC SUNS AFLW Club Champion.

“Lucy is a valuable member of our squad, both on and off the field, and we’re thrilled to see her remain at club for at lest the next four seasons,” GC SUNS Head of Women’s Football Fiona Sessarago said.

“She has been asked to play a variety of roles throughout her AFLW career which is a testament to her versatility and the trust her coaches and teammates have in her.
