Draft round up: The Sun’s go for tall talent at the draft
02 Dec, 2020
The Northern Sun’s have targeted a number of tall players at this year’s national draft.
Travis Walker (Auckland) and Josh Morgan-Ranui (Wellington) were picked 1 and 2 in their respective categories last night and the pair will add much needed height to the Sun’s squad in 2021.
Howick Hornets superstar Travis Walker was touted as an early draft pick and was picked up as the number 1 pick in the Auckland category.
Having returned to New Zealand in 2018, after spending several years in Melbourne, Travis found a home at the Hornets in the Auckland AFL.
The 27 year old is powerful ruckman/key forward who is able to win the contest by dominating his opponent.
The Northern Suns lacked depth in his position last season and is a welcome arrival for Adem Manderovic’s side.
The 21 year old from Wellington became involved with the sport through the AFL Cup Secondary School competition in 2015 where he represented Wellington College. Since then, he has been making waves with his hard nosed attitude and desire to become the best AFL player he can be.
Josh made the move to Melbourne in 2019 and made a big impact at the St Kilda City Football Club where his side won the Premiership.
At 190cm tall, Josh is a strong footballer who uses his size to his advantage when he lines up for his local Wellington Club side the North City Demons.
