Anderson the hero, as the Crows sink the Giants with final kick of the game
29 Mar, 2021
Western Crows full forward, Sam Anderson has kicked a tough 40m goal in the dying seconds of the game to snatch victory from the Giants in their round 6 Premiership clash yesterday afternoon.
With a strong breeze blowing to the western part of the ground, the Giants got off to a blistering start, kicking 4 goals to 1 in the first quarter.
The ladder leaders welcomed back co-captain, Andrew Howison, who made a sudden impact in the middle of the ground.
The Crows returned fire in the second quarter, kicking 4 goal of their own as they took a 1 point lead into the main break.
The third term played a major role in the outcome of the game as the Crows worked extremely hard in defence and managed to slow up the game. The Giants were hot on attack all quarter but the Waitakere Magpie duo of Tevita Misiloi and Josh Copeland were both hard to beat as they kept the Giants to only 2 goals.
With the wind behind them in the final quarter, the Crows got an early goal through Sam Anderson, who marked in the goal square. Giants defenders Troy Brown and Lane McSkimming were both working hard as the Crows kept attacking.
With the Giants leading by 2 points and only seconds left on the scoreboard, the Crows went down the corridor and put the ball out in front of Sam Anderson. He launched the ball high and snuck it through the posts to put the Crows in front to win them the game.
The Premiership takes a break over the Easter weekend and returns on April 11 for the final round robin game.
Sam Anderson kicked 3 goals for the game, including the match winner and certainly was the hero.
The support cast:
Brendan Clark wound back the clock to have a standout game for the Crows. The veteran worked hard for all four quarters and finished with a goal.
The consolation effort:
Lane McSkimming was awarded the Giants best on ground after a superb performance. McSkimming is playing in his first season in the Premiership and continues to develop into an all round footballer.

“The Crows played extremely well and took advantage of the game, when they had the wind at their backs. We were slightly off today but we will be better for it.” Justin Gauci, Central Giants.
