Port Adelaide’s Abbey Dowrick and emerging Gold Coast Sun Lucy Single have been recognised for their efforts in this year’s AFLW 22UNDER22 squad.
There are 27 fresh faces in this year’s squad, but also a number of players vying for their third – and even fourth – selection.
Incredibly, stars Charlie Rowbottom (Gold Coast) and Georgie Prespakis (Geelong) are in the running for a fourth selection in the final 22Under22 team, while Giant Tarni Evans and Tiger Ellie McKenzie are a chance to be named for their third time in their young careers.
The squad was chosen by former AFLW player Kate McCarthy in her role as Chair of Selectors, with support also from the AFLPA and Champion Data.
“This squad is a credit to the youth we have seen come through the pathways and make a large impact on the competition,” McCarthy said in a statement.
“We have a number of first-year players in the squad, which shows the upward direction our competition is heading.”
Eligibility for a player to be selected in the squad requires them to be 22 years of age or under for the entirety of the ongoing AFLW season (including Grand Final day – November 30).
They also must have played at least five matches throughout the 2024 season.
It will be fans that decide the make up of the final 22Under22 team, with voting now open at vote.22under22.com.au.
Voting will close at midnight on November 13.
The final line up for the 22Under22 side will be announced on November 20 on the AFLPA’s website and social media channels.
