2020 Volunteer of the Year announced

The AFL New Zealand High Performance Awards recognise, acknowledge and celebrate the very best in athletes, coaches, officials, administrators and volunteers and what they offer to the development of AFL in Aotearoa.

The scheduling of the awards for its eighth year was due to take place on April 4th. Due to COVID-19, this will now take place electronically and we encourage you to support those involved and their efforts.

AFL New Zealand would like to congratulate Howard Gilbert on winning the 2020 AFL New Zealand Volunteer of the Year.

Howard Gilbert has been involved in multiple roles with the University Blues Football Club in the Auckland local league for over 20 years and is the current Team Manager of 2017 AFL New Zealand Premiers, the Southern Saints.

He has been the manager of the New Zealand Falcons since 2017 and has volunteered his time to help out with the AFL Cup Secondary Schools Competition.

Howard has recently turned his attention to the Women’s game, where he will work alongside AFL New Zealand and the Auckland AFL to help grow the Women’s game.
