AFL set for crazy finish

With just two rounds remaining, the AFL’s Home and Away season is nearing its end, and the race for the minor premiership is tighter than ever. Only four points separate 1st-placed Adelaide Crows and 4th-placed Fremantle Dockers.

The 2025 AFL season has been full of surprises — from Richmond upsetting Carlton, to St Kilda’s record-breaking comeback win over Melbourne, scoring 56 points in the final quarter. It’s been a season to remember, but it’s far from over. With just eight points separating 1st and 8th on the ladder, and two games to play, anything can still happen.

The pressure is on at the top, with Adelaide sitting just one win ahead of Geelong, Collingwood, and Fremantle, who are all level on points. All eyes will be on this week’s clash between Adelaide and Collingwood — a match likely to shape the top four. The Brisbane Lions sit just two points outside the top four, but they’ll need to overcome both Fremantle and Hawthorn — sides also in the hunt for a top-four finish. Geelong, currently in 2nd, are the only team in the top eight not facing another top-eight side in the final two rounds, putting them in a strong position to make a late push for the minor premiership.

At the other end, the Western Bulldogs are four points outside the top eight but boast one of the highest percentages in the league, keeping them in late contention. This heaps the pressure on GWS and Hawthorn to win their remaining fixtures. The Gold Coast Suns are also still in the mix, with a game in hand following the postponement of their opening round due to Tropical Cyclone Alfred. With 16 premiership points still available to them, the Suns could theoretically finish on top of the ladder — though a top-four finish is a more realistic and likely outcome.

It all comes down to this: two rounds, 19 games, and everything to play for before the 2025 AFL Home and Away season wraps up. Tune in to Sky Sport to watch the matches live, or subscribe to WatchAFL to catch all the action and more.
