AFL Head of Strategy and Scheduling Josh Bowler said the League was looking forward to an exciting start to the Finals Series as the AFLW celebrates its landmark 10th season.
“The 2025 season has delivered incredible football — record scores, milestone achievements, and new stars emerging across the competition,” Bowler said. “As we move into finals, it’s fantastic to see a fresh mix of clubs vying for the Premiership Cup. Congratulations to St Kilda and West Coast on reaching their first AFLW Finals Series, and to North Melbourne Tasmanian Kangaroos on securing the minor premiership.”
Bowler added that three matches would be hosted at IKON Park in Melbourne, with Norwood Oval staging Adelaide’s clash against St Kilda.
“We’ve worked closely with venues to ensure fans can enjoy the best possible finals atmosphere,” he said. “Every team will be striving to fill their stadiums and we encourage supporters to get behind their clubs for what promises to be an unforgettable Finals Series.”
The final round of the Home and Away Season provided plenty of drama and history. Carlton sealed its finals spot with a hard-fought win over West Coast, highlighted by Darcy Vescio’s post-siren barrel. Port Adelaide’s Gemma Houghton became the first AFLW player to kick 100 career goals, while Essendon’s upset over Sydney helped secure West Coast’s maiden finals berth.
Brisbane’s win over Collingwood lifted them to third on the ladder, while St Kilda’s loss to the Western Bulldogs cost them a home final. Adelaide’s must-win victory over Fremantle ensured their place in the top eight.
The race for the McClelland Trophy and its $1 million prize now intensifies, with Brisbane, Hawthorn and Adelaide all in contention. For the first time, finals results will count toward the standings, with the AFL clubs earning 18, 15 and 14 points respectively for their AFL season finishes.
