Auckland AFL to kick off after delayed start

The Auckland AFL will kick of its 2020 season this Sunday the 4th of October after the season was twice delayed due to the Covid 19 pandemic.

The countries biggest local competition will still be holding a 10 round home and away season with the Grand Final set for December 12th at North Harbour Stadium.

The University Blues will be searching for a three-peat in 2020 after they claimed the 2019 Premiership by beating the North Shore Tigers by 4 points in a thriller last December.

The North Shore Tigers are still suffering from their defeat to the University Blues in last year’s Grand Final but they have a strong talented squad and will be pushing hard of going one better this season.

After a disappointing season in 2019, the Raiders will be looking to bounce back in 2020.

With a core group of players that have years of experience, the squad also boasts a heap of young talent who have all shown ability and are itching to play.

One thing about the Raiders is that they are a team that don’t backdown from a challenge and will fight in every game.

The Howick Hornets will be a threat once again this season and will be hungry to make it to the Grand Final. Back to Back league Best and Fairest winner Jay Green will be back in business as the Hornets look to put a sting in the competition.

The Waitakere Magpies have secured former North Shore Tiger Steve Howard in a head coach role for 2020 as they look to win their first Premiership since 2016. NZ Falcon Shane Leat will once again be the key figurehead within the side and they push every opponent until the final siren.

Don’t count out the Mt Roskill Saints. The 2018 runners up lost to University in the Semi Finals last year but they will still be in contention for the 2020 Premiership. AFL New Zealand Premiership stars, Michael Boyce, Tristan Burnett, Will Dickinson, Al Maisey and Mitch Weir are all part of the Saints line up and their experience will be key to winning the flag.
