This year’s AFL New Zealand National Draft will feature some big names who are either returning or making their debut in the 2019 AFL New Zealand Premiership.
We feature four players who will be high on every coaches list.
The 2018 AFL New Zealand National Draft will take place November 28th at 8.00pm and will see all players placed into one of three list categories. The Draft will be live via the AFL New Zealand Twitter Page.
Tim Stokes
University Blues midfielder Tim Stokes has re-entered into the National Draft in search of new opportunities.
Formerly a Northern Suns squad member for the past three seasons, Tim is a hard, physical midfielder who positions himself well around the ground.
Named in the 2016 AFL New Zealand Premiership Team of the Year, Tim made his debut for the New Zealand senior team against the AFL Academy in April 2016.
Joseph Alesich-Tamariki
North Shore Tiger’s swing-man Joseph Alesich-Tamariki will line up in the National Draft for the first time since 2016.
Having spent the past three seasons with the Western Crows, Alesich-Tamariki’s playing style could likely suit the Central Giants.
The 19 year old was utilised as a key forward early in his career but has made the move to the half back line where he has more freedom to move up the field.
Steph Tabaillou
Aucklander and Howick Hornets player Steph Tabaillou will be hot on everyone’s list as enters the National Draft on Wednesday.
Tabaillou has been linked with the Western Crows for the past three seasons and the small forward was one of their most consistent players during the 2017 season, proving handy in front of goal.
His determination to get his hands on the football is up there with the best in the competition and will be an asset in any of the four sides.
Zac Maio
Zac Maio is currently with the Mt Roskill Club has a wealth of experience at regional level with eight seasons based at the Mount Roskill Saints.
Selected by the Western Crows in last year’s draft, Maio is looking for new opportunities within the Premiership.
A member of New Zealand Under 16 team in 2009, Maio played in illustrious company with Kurt Heatherley, former Hawk Shem Tatupu and current Warrior David Fusitua in AFL New Zealand’s commencement of the junior talent pathway.
