Central Giants lock in Lockwood

The Central Giants have announced that they will add Regional based player Tayne Lockwood to their retained players list for the 2018 AFL New Zealand Premiership. Lockwood will join Playing Assistant Coach James Bowden in the same category.

The players have been retained through Category 3 of the Retained Players List (RPL): Retention of Regionally based players (Christchurch/ Dunedin/ Wellington) who have not played for the New Zealand Senior team over the past 12 months.

Tayne Lockwood

19 year old Tayne Lockwood presents as one of the fastest AFL players in the country and hails from Wellington.

He was awarded best on ground in the 2016 New Zealand Under 18’s tour to Melbourne but unfortunately missed the 2017 tour following a broken collarbone.

Tayne is best suited to a roving back position where he is able to use his speed and skill to get his team out of trouble.

With more experience under his belt, this could progress into an on ball position in the 2018 season where he will be pitted against some of New Zealand’s most experienced and talented players.
