The Central Giants have announced that they will add regionally based New Zealand representative player Craig Morgan to their retained players list for the 2018 AFL New Zealand Premiership.
The Giants retained Morgan through Category 4 of the Retained Players List (RPL): Regionally based New Zealand Representative (Christchurch/ Dunedin/ Wellington).
23 year old Craig Morgan from Wellington will once again be apart of the Central Giants set up for the 2018 Premiership season.
It was a big year for the Wellingtonian who played in his debut season for the Premiership side and following consistent performances, Morgan was named in the backline for the AFL New Zealand Premiership ‘Team of the Year’ in April.
Fast forward four months and Craig found himself on a plane to Melbourne with the New Zealand side heading to the 2017 AFL International Cup.
His New Zealand representation began in 2011 when Craig was a member of the victorious Under 16 New Zealand side who won the Oceania tournament held in Fiji.
A knee injury had kept Craig on the sidelines over the previous two AFL seasons but he is enjoying being back on the footy field after completing a comprehensive rehabilitation programme.
Craig currently resides in Wellington and plays at fullback for the Hutt Valley Eagles in the local Wellington AFL competition, who are led by current Northern Suns Captain James Kusel. Whenever he gets the chance, Morgan likes to move up the field to his preferred position at Centre Half Back where he can run with the ball and transition into his teams attacking half.
