Community Matter helping AFL New Zealand provide opportunities to youth in the Northland region.

AFL New Zealand would like to acknowledge and thank the Community Matter for their support in the development of AFL within New Zealand.

The fundamental skills of ‘Kick, Catch, Pass and Bounce’ are utilised throughout all our programmes and are transferable to a wide range of sports. AFLNZ incorporates physical literacy within programmes to encourage all to be Active For Life. This approach, endorsed by Sport New Zealand, is “the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge and understanding required by participants that allows them to value and take responsibility for engaging in physical activity and sport for life”.

The Funding provided from Community Matter, allowed AFL New Zealand to provide gear and training for volunteers to run AFL sessions in a 6 week ‘Spring into Twilight Sports’ activation centre in the Whangarei / Kaipara region, which gave particpating tamariki and rangatahi the opportunity to and play a range of different sports and have fun while doing so.
