After their impressive season in the Auckland AFL, Howick Hornets players Kevin Crowe, Ryan White, Elliot Bennetts and Tim Elsey have all been included into the 2017 National Draft to see which team they will line up for in the 2018 AFL New Zealand Premiership.
Along with the above players mentioned, Howick Head Coach Andrew Azzopardi will also be involved in the national competition as he takes up a role of Assistant Coach for the Central Giants.
AFL New Zealand media previews the four Hornets players ahead of next week’s National Draft which takes place on Tuesday the 21st of November from 8.00pm.
Kevin Crowe
Position: Midfielder
Playing in his debut Auckland AFL season, Kevin Crowe has set the 2017 competition alight. Originally from the United States of America but now residing in Auckland, Crowe is one of the toughest midfielders in the competition.
With a background in Rugby, Crowe’s strengths are his running game and breaking out from the contest. To add to his strengths, he is boasts a powerful and accurate kick in front of goal.
Ryan White
Position: Midfielder
Now in his fifth year playing AFL, Howick Hornets skipper Ryan White is a former defender who now plays in the midfield.
His strong leadership qualities and knowledge of the game makes him an asset to the Hornets and will slot into any of the four Premiership teams with ease.
Elliot Bennetts
Position: Half Forward
Fast paced Elliot Bennetts is turning into a smart, agile small forward.
Previously a midfielder, Bennetts moved into the forward line in 2017 has become one of the best small forwards in the Auckland competition.
His burst of speed helps evade defenders and his ability to kick goals could see him suit the attacking style of the Northern Suns.
Tim Elsey
Position: Centre Half Back / Full Back
Tim Elsey is a very handy defender for the Howick Hornets.
In his sixth year playing the sport, Elsey has pace to burn and has the determination to get his hands on the footy.
He is always one step ahead of his opposition and is known for keeping his calm and running the ball out from defence.
“He can read the play well has been a big asset to the team this season.” Captain Ryan White.
