Ronald Fuschtei-Hawke was a member of Port Adelaide’s Aboriginal Academy team that toured New Zealand in December 2017.
As a reward for completing both the educational and football components of the Academy program across the year, he along with his team were provided with the opportunity to travel to New Zealand on a football and cultural exchange tour. This was completed with a match against the New Zealand Under 18 team with Ronald showcasing a cool head and excellent vision to match with a silky skill set.
The 18 year old is in the unique and fortunate position to have two beautiful cultures within his DNA – Aboriginal and Maori with his Aboriginal mother Deborah and a Maori father Grant.
Beyond the cultural significance of Ronald’s impending debut with the Senior New Zealand team, the coaching group are happy to have the accomplished back man in their line up for the difficult assignment that lay ahead. The match against the Australian AFL Academy will be at a furious pace with the next generation of AFL superstars ready to test themselves against the New Zealand Senior team.
Alongside experienced New Zealand campaigner Will Gregson, the back line including Fuschtei-Hawke will have to work hard to control the ever flowing movement of this accomplished group of Australians.
The opportunity to play on Westpac Stadium will certainly provide a setting that add to the challenge that lay ahead.
