Giants run rampant against Crows to set up Grand Final clash with the Saints

The Giants have saved their best until last, winning their final game of the season to beat the Western Crows by 102 points on Sunday afternoon.

The Crows upset the Giants in round 6 but it was the ladder leaders who came out firing from the first bounce.

The title favourites kicked 4 goals in the first term, while keeping the Crows scoreless. Andrew Howison and Kirk Murray were dominant in the midfield and linking nicely with their forward line of Taylor Potter and Joey Alesich.

The trend continued in the second term as the Giants pushed forward, kicking another 3 goals.

With a 81 point lead at three quarter time, the Giants continued to put the foot on the throat and it wasn’t until late in the game when the Crows kicked their first goal through Dan Brooks.

The Giants won the game by 102 points and will be aiming for their first Premiership since 2018.

Brandon Sucu and Tristan Burnett did a stellar job in defence, while Ben Armstrong had a good game around the midfield.

The Grand Final will be contested by the Southern Saints and Central Giants on Sunday, April 18th at 2.30pm at North Harbour Stadium.

The hero:

Taylor Potter had a solid all round game in the forward line. Along with kicking 2 goals, Potter set up Joey Alesich a number of times and linked well with the midfield.

The support cast:

Kirk Murray is a dominant midfielder in a ruckmans body. The tall Giant produced another great game around the ground and is in a rich vein of form.

The consolation effort:

Al Maisey was the Crows best in a losing effort. The Crows swingman got a lot of the footy and made a big impact.

Say what?

“We kept the plan simple today and played man on man footy and tried to shut the Crows down as quick as possible. We are all looking ahead to the Grand Final now and come up against a really talented side in the Saints.” Justin Gauci, Central Giants.

“The Giants ran us off our feet today and I felt that we came into the game a little flat.” Matt Cawley, Crows Head Coach.
