A Primary School in Auckland is leading the charge when it comes to the digital age.
Teachers at Glenbrook School in Waiuku have adopted the AFL KiwiKick online platform as part of the Kiwisport project funded by CLM Community Sport and will utilise their year 7 and 8 students to deliver the programme to the junior school.
The AFL KiwiKick online platform was set up during the Covid-19 lockdown to help keep New Zealanders playing AFL at home and at School.
The programme is broken down into 6 lessons and is accompanied by online videos and instructions that help teach the fundamental skills of AFL for boys and girls between 5 to 12 years of age.
The fundamental skills of ‘Kick, Catch, Pass and Bounce’ are utilised through out the AFL KiwiKick Programme and are transferable to a wide range of sports.
AFL New Zealand incorporates physical literacy within its programmes to encourage all participants to be Active For Life. This approach, endorsed by Sport New Zealand, is “the motivation, confidence, physical competence, knowledge and understanding required by participants that allows them to value and take responsibility for engaging in physical activity and sport for life”
AFL KiwiKick provides a great skill base for students and their transition from primary to intermediate and on to secondary school sport. It’s for boys and girls, mums and dads. AFL KiwiKick is fun, it’s safe and it works!
