Hammett shines in the season opener to take Rising Star for round 1

The AFL New Zealand Rising Star award will be awarded weekly to a standout young player in the 2023 AFL New Zealand Premiership.

The AFL New Zealand Rising Star award for round 1 of the 2023 AFL New Zealand Premiership has been awarded to development player. Max Hammett.

Max Hammett has started his premiership career in style. The Cantabrian was eager to get on the field in his first Premiership game and looked like a seasoned veteran. Hammett played for the Crows in the first Premiership game played in Christchurch, and kicked a vital goal late in the game to help keep the crows ahead.

Hammett has a tremendous level of fitness and will run all day. He has the potential to be a great midfielder as he develops. Being a development player this year will give him a great opportunity to learn from some of the best players from around the country

AFL New Zealand spoke to Hammett and asked him a couple of questions during the week.

Brother started playing and got me into it
